An Ode To Kashmir
Fashion | June 5th 2019
One of my earliest memories of me in a lehenga is from when I was perhaps 12-13 years old during Navratri. I remember this because I was just about discovering my own individuality while simultaneously realizing boys were actually not half bad.
This look back then was to me the most exquisite outfit I had ever worn and I remember it so clearly. It had a ripe orange tulle skirt with a shaded orange bandhani blouse, which tied daintily at the back. The matching dupatta was smattered with starry embroidery that sparkled as it caught the light.
There is something special about high quality Indian wear that makes me feel like I can do anything, talk to any one in the room without faltering … up until I out grew it of course.
We have both worn many beautiful garments since then but very few have made us feel the way this particular outfit from my adolescence made me feel then.
The ones that do make us feel incredible, we present to you guys. Which brings me to the point of my rant – the sensational Spring-Summer collection by SUE MUE aptly titled “GULNOOR”.
This collection draws a tremendous amount of inspiration from Kashmir especially when the valley blooms in springtime. The looks seem to radiate like blossoms at sunset, evoking a sense of self-love. The palette is soothing yet opulent; using colors like ivory, powder blue, rose pink, lemon green, daffodil yellow and cloud grey. The silhouettes are designed to evoke the freshness of flowers in bloom and they have used exclusively hand woven fabrics like handloom cotton/jute, tulle, silk, organza and linen. The intricate threadwork embroidery, aari-work and patchwork along with gold and silver zardozi mimic the timeless designs on Jamawar shawls.
We have both been bridesmaids only once thus far and I can tell you with certainty that it is very important to choose the right outfit for the job; Not only must you stand out from the crowd but also be able to do your duties without getting hindered by your outfit. This is why customisation is key and SUE MUE can do this impeccably while maintaining the high-quality construction and fabrication that they are known for.
The Gulnoor bridal wear, couture and prêt collections pay homage to the enchanting tales of Kashmiri lore, when the Arabian sultans and Persian begums draped themselves in rich and alluring sheaths of pashmina.
Each garment strikes just the right balance between opulence and wearability allowing a summer bride to feel at ease without compromising on the workmanship.
Whether you prefer an anarkali, a jumpsuit, a Pakistani suit, gharara or a saree, there is something in this collection to suit the tastes of each and every one of you.
These looks make us feel loved, deeply and most satisfyingly so. The self-love seems to glow from within and emanate out into the world. Loving yourself sometimes is easier said than done but occasionally something comes along to make it so much easier. #LoveThyNoor!
